Garma is held on a significant Yolngu ceremonial meeting ground called Gulkula, outside the Gove township, north east Arnhem land in the Northern Territory. Guests number up to 2500, and the facilities are basic camping accommodation. The Festival is an open air affair, nestled amongst the stringybark trees.

Leaders from across the nation gather at Garma, including guests such as the Timorese President Jose Ramos Horta, Dutch Ambassador, Indigenous entertainers, academics, legal types and university students and their institutions.

Garma is where the saltwater and the freshwater meet to discuss, and where balance is sought and solutions are found. It is likened to reconciliation in it's purest form.
